Fourth Of July Festivities In The Valley And Beyond

The greater Naugatuck Valley area is preparing to light up the sky to celebrate Fourth of July with several fireworks displays and other festivities to mark America’s birthday.

Here’s what we’ve come up with as of June 27:

ANSONIA:

Legion Liftoff Model Rocket Launch

Friday, July 4

10 – 11:30 a.m.

Nelligan Park, Doyle Drive, Ansonia

The Gordon-Viselli American Legion Post 50 of Ansonia will once again be hosting the Legion Liftoff to celebrate Independence Day. Approximately 50 model rockets will be launched.

Ansonia Scout Troop 7 will be partnering with the Legion as they did last summer.

This is a free, family fun event. Commander Mike Heise invites you to bring blankets and lawn chairs (there is some limited bleacher seating also) to enjoy some music and take in the excitement during this holiday celebration. Kids will be invited to retrieve rockets as they parachute down and there will be other interactive opportunities also that will add to the fun.

Free freeze pops will be on hand to ward off the heat. A great way to start the Independence Day weekend. Don’t miss out on the fun!

DERBY:

Derby/Shelton Fireworks

Thursday, July 3 (rain date July 5)

9:15 p.m.

Elizabeth Street will be closed to traffic from Main Street to Fifth Street, according to Derby’s website. A musical concert will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in front of Derby City Hall, 1 Elizabeth Street. Municipal parking garage will be open for parking only. No viewing will be allowed.

6 p.m. Food trucks and Derby Senior Center fried dough fundraiser, Elizabeth Street between Main and 3rd streets.

7 to 9 p.m. Music concert by The Convertibles (60s & 70’s rock), Elizabeth Street near Main Street, Derby

Derby 350th Anniversary memorabilia will also be on sale

DERBY:

Independence Day Celebration

Friday, July 4

11 a.m.

Derby Green, Elizabeth Street, Derby

American Legion Post 24, Catholic War Veterans, Post 1562, Derby Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary Post 1562, City of Derby, Derby Elks Lodge 571, Derby Historical Society and the Derby Police Department will host an Independence Day Celebration starting at 10:45 a.m. with music by the Magnificent Brass. That will be followed by an essay contest awards ceremony at 11 a.m., featuring a reading of the Declaration of Independence in the style of the celebrations of 1777. At 12:30 p.m., there will be a picnic lunch and colonial children’s games.

OXFORD:

Quaker Farms Fire Co. Annual Firemen’s Carnival and Fireworks

July 23 – 25

6 – 10:30 p.m.

Oxford High School

61 Quaker Farms Rd., Oxford

Fireworks will be held at 9:45 p.m. on both July 23 and July 25. The carnival will feature a large variety of food, including hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers, fried dough and corn dogs, along with rides and games.

Ticket prices for rides are $1 per ticket; $20 for 22 tickets or $35 for wristbands (per night)

This year’s headlining band is The Bernadettes. The fairgrounds will open at 3 p.m. The concert will begin at 6:30 pm followed by a fireworks display at dusk. Food trucks will be on site.

Stratford:

Stratford’s Independence Day Fireworks Celebration

Short Beach, Stratford
Trumbull:
Annual Reading of the Declaration of Independence
Friday, July 4

10 a.m.

Front steps of Trumbull Town Hall, 5892 Main St., Trumbull

This special event will feature citizen volunteers reading the Declaration, along with musical performances and patriotic presentations. We recommend bringing lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

West Haven:
