Frank Lazowski Resigns From Derby Tax Board

Frank Lazowski’s letter of resignation from the Derby Board of Apportionment and Taxation was submitted to the Town Clerk’s office Thursday morning.

Lazowski pleaded guilty March 15 to first-degree larceny. He was accused of embezzling money from his former employer, M&O Corp., a HVAC company in Bridgeport.

Lazowski worked there for 21 years.

According to a report in the New Haven Register, Lazowkski could face up to a year in jail after paying back $75,000 back to the company.

He is scheduled to be sentenced May 5.

The lifelong Derby resident was appointed to the tax board in April 2009 to finish the term of Karen Getlein. He was elected to a full, two-year term in November, receiving 1,643 votes.

In his resignation letter dated March 15, Lazowski writes that his love and commitment to the City of Derby makes this necessary, as I do not want my situation to in any way tarnish our great City or the necessary work of this (tax) board.”

Lazowski’s term was set to expire Dec. 3, 2011. Ken Hughes, president of the Board of Aldermen, said Democratic Aldermen will choose a replacement for Lazowski, who is a Democrat.

Lazowski’s letter is posted below.
