Special Meeting Of Aldermen Friday
ANSONIA — A special meeting of the board of aldermen will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at the city hall to act upon the recommendations of the tax board to set up $10,000 from the special school fund for the construction of the addition to the Pine school building.
Two Miss Graduation
ANSONIA — Two girls of the graduating class missed the exercises because they suffered cuts about their face in an accident in Seymour yesterday afternoon. They were not seriously hurt. The car in which they were traveling overturned on Old Ansonia Road.
High School To Graduate 86 Tonight
DERBY — The graduation exercises of the class of 1959 derby high school will take place at 8 o’clock in the Commodore Hull Theater. There are 86 members of the graduating class.
Town Hall Will Be Closed On Saturday
SEYMOUR — Municipal offices in the town hall will be closed on Saturday in observance of the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the town of Seymour, it was announced today by First Selectman Harry F Mannweiler.

DHS Student Body Honors Ryan
DERBY — Leo F. Ryan, high school instructor who retired today as head coach of athletics at the derby high school after 25 years, was honored by the student body at the closing assembly this morning. The student body presented Ryan with a handsome table model radio in recognition of his long and successful service. The presentation was made by Emilio Riccio Jr., a member of the senior class.
Destroyer Named For Derby War Hero Due At 4:30 Saturday
DERBY — The destroyer USS Witek named after a Derby Marine Corps hero, PFC Francis P Witek, is scheduled to arrive at 4:30 p.m. at Cilco terminal in Bridgeport and will be open for public inspection.

Seymour Thronged For Centennial Parade
SEYMOUR — Seymour’s streets were thronged today as the town prepared to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its incorporation with a brilliant street parade which will include thirty historical floats, eleven bands and drum corps, and veterans, civic, fraternal and school groups marching in three divisions.
Alderman Okay $10,000 For Pine High Addition
ANSONIA — The Board of Aldermen by a roll call vote of 12 yes at a special meeting at city hall last night gave its approval to a $10,000 appropriation from the special school fund to be used to supplement Pine trust money for the construction of an addition to Pine school.
Alan Dana Named Editor-in-Chief Of The Observer
ANSONIA — Alan Dana of the class of 1951 at the Ansonia High School was chosen as editor in chief of the Observer staff, the official student publication at the school, it was announced today by Principal John J. F. Ruddy.
Money Display Arranged In Bank
SEYMOUR — An interesting display of money used by banks in Connecticut during the 1800s has been arranged in the lobby of the Seymour Trust Company and will be there for the next several days.
Special Meeting Of The Tax Board
DERBY — Mayor Anthony DiRienzo has called a special meeting of the board of apportionment and taxation for Tuesday night to ask the board to waive bids for surfacing roads and extending the sewer lines.

Auto Mishap At Intersection
ANSONIA — an automobile operated by Milton Student of Shelton collided with one being driven by Mildred Butler of Ansonia shortly before 7 o’clock Saturday evening. Both drivers were arrested for motor vehicle charges.
Police Investigating Theft Of Metal
ANSONIA — Detective Sgt. Frederick Shortell is continuing his investigation into the theft of 1,000 pounds of bronze bushings and copper cables from the junk yard at Yale Rubin, 549 Main St. The thefts were made over the course of several days.
