Abandoned Pole Blocks Traffic
ANSONIA — Police are looking for the owner of a telegraph pole that was left behind when his wagon broke down on Saturday.

ANSONIA — The AME Zion church on Derby Avenue in Derby has been sold by the Crossman Real Estate and Insurance Agency.

Italian Society Plans Celebration
DERBY — The annual celebration of the Santa Maria della Vergini will be held Saturday and Sunday on the Derby Green.
Athlete Narrowly Escaped Drowning
DERBY — “Bill” Cemcowick seized with cramps in Lake Housatonic on Sunday evening. He had jumped into the water to get an oar, and then held onto the stern of the boat. He was rescued by Pinky Tomasso and rested for an hour after the incident.

‘Spotter’ For State Police Shows Up In Liquor Cases
ANSONIA — A man testified in court that he was hired by state police to secure evidence for recent liquor raids. The man was paid $35 a week and later received a $10 bottle as “evidence.” A judge dismissed two people accused in the liquor raid and imposed fines on two other people. The court case gave the public an inside look at how the state police conduct liquor raids.

Aged Man Dies While Dressing
SEYMOUR — Augustus Brushell, aged about 80 and a Seymour resident for many years, and only recently a resident of Bristol, died yesterday at the Hotel Brunswick.

DERBY — The Housatonic River is famed for its beauty and recreational facilities. The people of Derby and the associated communities are just awakening to a fuller realization of the natural beauty and recreational facilities along the Housatonic River. Until a few years ago the Valley was comparatively unknown, but when Yale rowers took an interest in the lake the curtain was lifted.
