Held Annual Outing
ANSONIA — Members and friends of Deutsch Verein (were greeted by) excellent weather at their annual outing held at Pleasant View Farm in Bethany. Over 150 were present and the affair was a most enjoyable one.

Three Ansonia Girls Are Brides
ANSONIA — Miss Thelma Jackson becomes wife of Daniel J. James. Miss Mary V. Farrell, former school teacher, bride of Edward G. Nath. Miss Rose Haslewood became the bride of Thomas Huband.

July 29, 1924

Freight Cars In Accident Today
SHELTON — Traffic on the Berkshire division was held up from 4 45 this morning until 12 o’clock this noon because of a minor accident caused by the telescoping of a freight car in the southbound lane. The accident happened opposite the Recreation Camp in Derby.

Smalec Appeals Jail Sentence
SEYMOUR
– Ignatz Smalec, confectioner flower dealer and general dispenser of soft drinks at 17 Main St., was found guilty of two actual sales and of having liquor with intent to sell. He was fined $100. He plans to appeal.

Street Sign Sends Stranger Off Route
DERBY
 — A book salesman, who believed in signs, was broken of the habit yesterday when he made a brave search for the Derby Public Library. He lost an hour of time and walked a considerable distance because two signs in Derby sent him on a wild goose chase in his search for the library.


July 30, 1924

Hottest Day Yet
ANSONIA
 — Temperature at 97 degrees at 1 p.m. in the shade. Along Main Street it was even hotter.

Silvers Fights
ANSONIA –Kid Silvers of this city was scheduled to fight Chick Sudds, champion bantam of New England, but only a handful of fans turned out in Warren, Rhode Island, so there wasn’t enough money for the promoters to pay the principals. The two fighters still put on a no-decision exhibition match. Both scrappers proved to be excellent boxers.

John Ewanietz Arrested Again
DERBY – Four federal officers arrested John Ewanietz of Main Street after finding in his cafe two dozen bottles of wine, a half gallon of whiskey in a milk jug, and a gallon jug full of what was alleged to be some sort of homemade hooch.
