Oct. 11, 1928

T.L. Bristol Jr. Named As GOP Candidate For Mayor
ANSONIA Theodore L. Bristol Jr., president of the Board of Aldermen, was unanimously nominated as a candidate for mayor by the Republicans last night. The caucus, which was held in the opera house, was largely attended and was marked by enthusiasm. Between 300 and 400 members of the party were present and Mr. Bristol was given an ovation after his nomination.

Gets Award Of Merit
ANSONIA — A certificate of merit has been awarded to the Ansonia garage on Central Street, agency for Studebaker cars, by the Studebaker corporation in testimony of its high mark of attainment in its servicing Studebaker machines.

Tremont To Open
ANSONIA — After having been closed all during the summer months the Tremont theater will reopen its doors Saturday afternoon, and from then on will be open every night during the week. Miss Josephine Costello will again sell tickets at the Tremont while Miss Eleanor Weiman of this city has been procured as organist, a fact that assures theater patrons fine music during the showing of pictures.

Coach Ryan Puts Capt. In Backfield
DERBY — Satisfied that on the line he has a group of stalwarts able to cope with the average offensive high school eleven, Coach Leo Ryan of the local high school is concentrating his efforts on securing a backfield that will be strong, not only defensively, but offensively as well.

Oct. 12, 1928

Mayor Cook Renominated By Democrats Last Night
ANSONIA — Mayor Michael J. Cook was unanimously renominated by the Democrats last night, John W. Schumacher and Richard J. Hall being named as candidates for representatives. The Democrats, after endorsing Frederick M. Drew, Republican, as candidate for city treasurer for over a dozen years, decided to put up their own candidate, naming Michael W. Riordan for the position.

Seymour Ready For Derby Game
SEYMOUR — A last minute workout was held by the high school football team for its first game of the Housatonic league schedule to be played against Derby at Buddies’ field tomorrow afternoon. Coach Eric Malmquist, former Dartmouth athlete, feels that his boys are in prime condition for the fray and expects them to at least hold Derby to a tie and possible carry the honors. The squad this year is stronger than ever before and should prove its mettle tomorrow.

SEYMOUR — Mr. and Mrs. Ernest D. Hull of Naugatuck are the guests of Mrs. Charles Hull this week.

Roger A. Bradley, Republican, Is Party’s Choice For Mayor
DERBY — Judge Archibald Duffield, chairman of the Republican Town Committee, announced at noon today that Roger A. Bradley of Mohawk Avenue would be the Republican candidate for mayor in the upcoming city election. Mr. Bradley is a native of this city and the son of Mrs. O.B. Bradley of Minerva Street. He is assistant superintendent of the Driscoll Wire works in Shelton and is a young man of much popularity throughout the city.

Former Mayor Beard Is Again Nominated For Mayoralty Race
SHELTON — Followed by an enthusiastic meeting of the Smith for President club at which former Congressman Patrick B. O’Sullivan gave a fine talk on Common Sense,” the caucus of Democrats last night in Weavers’ hall proved one of the tamest in some time.

Do Not Burn Leaves On New Pavements
ANSONIA — Warning is issued by city officials against burning leaves on the new pavements on North State Street and other streets where new pavements have been laid black where leaves had been burned.
