On Aug. 22 2009, Kathy Valvo of Naugatuck, suffered a violent seizure while six months pregnant.
She and the baby survived, but Valvo requires 24-hour care.
On Nov. 17, a fundraiser will be held at Santos Restaurant on Church Street in Naugatuck for the family.
Background
Valvo was admitted to the hospital after her seizure, and remained there for four months suffering from seizures and a coma.
Doctors gave her less than a 5 percent chance of survival. Against all odds, Kathy woke up from her coma and was removed from her respirator.
Despite horrific circumstances, she delivered Marc Anthony via cesarean section on Oct. 18, 2009.
He was and is a healthy baby.
Kathy still suffers from epilepsy and aphasia. She can’t walk without assistance.
She can’t write and has difficulty communicating.
Kathy and Marc need 24 hour care and cannot be left alone. Insurance will not cover the cost. The family has exhausted all other resources.
The Fundraiser
A Valvo Family Trust has been created to help the family. A fundraiser for that trust will be held on Nov. 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Santos Restaurant on Church Street in Naugatuck.
It costs $12 for adults, $8 for children, and $40 for a family. The event includes a meal of meatballs, salad, dessert and coffee.
