Gentile Receives ‘Town Crier’ Award

State Representative Linda Gentile (D‑Ansonia, Derby) received a Town Crier Award from the Connecticut Council of Small Towns (COST) for her leadership on issues affecting Connecticut’s smaller communities.

COSTs Town Crier Award was established to recognize and honor state legislators and other public officials who have distinguished themselves as outstanding advocates on issues affecting Connecticut’s small towns.

Rep. Gentile has been awarded COSTs Town Crier Award for her leadership role in winning passage of one of COSTs top priorities last year – legislation closing a potential $20-$30 million hole in municipal revenues by clarifying that partially completed construction is subject to property taxation,” said Dick Smith, COSTs President and First Selectman of Deep River.

In addition, as Chair of the legislature’s Planning & Development Committee, Rep. Gentile has been a staunch supporter of numerous proposals to provide towns with much-needed relief from unfunded state mandates,” Smith added.

Rep. Gentile has been very responsive to the needs of Connecticut’s small towns and cities. She has championed several proposals aimed at reducing burdensome mandates on Connecticut’s municipalities,” said Betsy Gara, COSTs Executive Director.

The award was presented at COSTs 2013 Connecticut Town Meeting held in Cromwell, which was attended by more than 350 municipal leaders, public officials and state lawmakers.

This year’s other recipients are Sen. Steve Cassano, Sen. Len Fasano, and Rep. Craig Miner.
