Girl Scouts of Connecticut (GSOFCT) believes that anti-bullying programming can make a different in a young girl’s life.
Girlz R.U.L.E.(R) is Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s signature program for girls in grades two through eight that provides activities and lessons over a 6 – 8 week session to reduce behaviors that lead to conflict, aggression, and violence.
Girl Scouts of Connecticut is grateful to host this programming at the John G. Prendergast and John C. Mead Schools in Ansonia, thanks to a $4,000 grant from the Valley United Way.
“Girl Scouts of Connecticut is committed to helping all girls at these elementary schools to develop their self-awareness, self-esteem, and leadership skills to help them stand up for themselves and others,” said Jennifer Smith Turner, CEO, Girl Scouts of Connecticut. “Our Girlz R.U.L.E.(R) signature program builds upon the leadership development and skills of young girls so that they will be more likely to build safe, healthy relationships. We are grateful to Valley United Way for helping us provide this innovative program to Ansonia girls.”
Girlz R.U.L.E.(R) focuses on four key principles: Respect, Understand, Lead, and Empower.
The activities are innovative and girl-centered, helping girls understand that their words and actions can negatively impact people. A series of role-playing and problem solving activities are utilized so participants can learn about the power of positive thinking, ways to end conflict, and how to combat bullying behaviors.
