Granite Trail Markers Stolen In Shelton

Five city-owned granite posts just like it have been stolen from behind the storage shed on the corner of Nells Rock Road and Shelton Avenue.

The posts belong to the Shelton Trails Committee and are used to mark the Shelton Lakes Recreation Path. They are stamped with a Shelton logo.

The five stolen posts did not have a logo stamped on them yet, and were being stored until future portions of the recreation path are completed, according to city conservation agent Teresa Gallagher.

Gallagher said the posts are about 5 feet tall, and weigh about 300 pounds each. Each marker is worth about $100.

Shelton police have been notified of the theft.

Det. Ben Trabka said this type of crime is often hard to investigate because it’s not clear exactly when the posts were taken from behind the shed.

Trabka said the posts may have been stolen for someone’s landscaping needs.

From time to time, we get people who have landscape material and things stolen,” said Trabka. It’s not widespread.”

If anyone spots the posts, Trabka asked them to call the police department at (203) 924‑0212.
