Great Oak Middle School inducted twenty-six students into the Honors Society on Tuesday, June 4.
One by one, students slowly filed into a dark cafeteria and truly let their light shine with burning candles in hand. As the lights were turned on, everyone stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
A description of honor society qualities was then read allowed by various students and subsequent candles that signified each quality were light one at a time.
The students then took their honor society pledge: “I pledge to uphold the high purpose of the Great Oak Honor Society to which I have been selected; I will be true to the principles for which it stands; I will be loyal to my school; And will strive to maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship.”
Students were announced individually by Assistant Principal Stephanie Miller where Principal Brian Murphy presented their certificate and Superintendent Timothy Connellan awarded them with their honors cord.
Donna Norko and Gerry Ryan served as advisors to the group. All in attendance were treated to various desserts and soda afterward.
