Guilty Plea In Shelton 'After Hours' Robbery

King

SHELTON – A 30-year-old man pled guilty under the Alford doctrine in connection to a 2023 robbery.

Marquise King of Bridgeport pleaded guilty in Superior Court on Tuesday (Sept. 10) to second-degree larceny under the terms of an agreement that calls for him to serve a 10-year prison sentence that is suspended after he serves two years behind bars. He will be on probation after he gets out.

King’s plea using the Alford doctrine means means he doesn’t admit guilt, but acknowledges the state has enough evidence for a conviction.

Shelton police arrested King on Dec. 12, 2023 in connection to a robbery that happened on Oct. 7, 2023.

According to police, a man was robbed in downtown Shelton after leaving a basement apartment on Howe Avenue that doubled as an illegal after hours bar.

The victim said two men approached him, pointed a gun at him, then robbed him of jewelry, a cell phone, and credit cards.

In court on Tuesday, a prosecutor said the victim was robbed of items worth $1,150 in total.

Prosecutors in the case said the victim was not interested in participating in the criminal case, and said the crime appeared to be random.

Police said the after hours bar was subsequently shut down.

King is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 5. He also has three felony charges from state police pending in court in Bridgeport.

He was initially charged with first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a firearm, in addition to second-degree larceny, both those other charges were dropped as part of the deal.
