Gun Stolen From Parked Car In Shelton

Police are trying to figure out who stole a handgun from a car outside the Lincoln Technical Institute Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from police, a 38-year-old student at the adult-education facility on Progress Drive called the authorities at about 10 a.m. after realizing someone had broken into his vehicle and stolen his gun.

The thief smashed a window to get into the vehicle and steal the gun, even though the weapon was hidden from plain view, police said.

Police searched the area in an effort to locate the weapon. School administrators dismissed students as a precaution.

The incident is still under investigation and more details will be released when available,” Shelton police said in a statement.

The incident prompted Shelton Public Schools to post a message on its website saying police were investigating a possible weapons violation,” at Lincoln but that the matter had no impact on schools.

Lincoln is not a part of Shelton Public Schools.
