Statewide

Statewide, Gov. Ned Lamont and the state Department of Health reported 802 additional COVID-19 cases between Thursday and Friday, along with two deaths. There were 33,408 tests reported Friday statewide.

According to the state, 184 people were in the hospital Friday because of COVID-19, a decrease of seven people since Thursday.

From The Hartford Courant:

Gov. Ned Lamont on Friday reported 802 positive results out of 33,048 coronavirus tests, for a rate of 2.4% The state has now recorded a positivity rate of 1.7% over the past week, higher than any previous seven-day stretch since mid-June.

The last time Connecticut reported so many cases in a single day (not including instances when the state reported multiple days’ data at once) was May 1. The large number of cases Friday reflects both increased COVID-19 spread as well as a particularly high number of test results reported
While the COVID-19 metrics are showing a true uptick, Connecticut is still in better shape than most of the U.S.

Halloween

Derby Mayor Rich Dziekan, one of two Derby City Hall employees to test positive for COVID-19 last week, recommended people not go door-to-door on Halloween this year, according to The Connecticut Post.

From The Post:

Dziekan also suggested Halloween revelers stay away from large gatherings and restaurants avoid any type of Halloween promotions that will result in large gatherings.

My desire is everyone stay safe and stay healthy,” said Dziekan, who on Thursday said he was feeling better and hadn’t had a fever in two days. There may not be trick-or-treating this year but there is always next year.”

Dziekan’s recommendation echoes guidelines released recently by the state Health Department and the federal Centers for Disease Control.
Local mayors have not issued orders” telling people whether they can trick r treat, contrary to posts on Valley social media. The guidelines have already been issued by the CDC and the state health department. The guidelines advise people to stay home.
