Happy Birthday, Griffin

Griffin Hospital admitted its first patient 100 years ago today.

The hospital started its 100th year celebration with a series of events earlier this year. (Hey, if you were turning 100, you’d party hard, too.)

Here are some of the events the Valley Indy covered:

Community members toured the hospital at an open house in June.

U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman toured it too!

The Valley United Way held its kick-off at Griffin to help celebrate.

Folks ran a 5K at Griffin to help fight cancer and celebrate the hospital’s new cancer center.

They even got famous tenor Robert Iarussi to belt out some tunes for a 100th anniversary video.

And the local branch of the NAACP gave Griffin an award.

Here’s what some other people are saying today:

U.S. Rep Rosa DeLauro sent her well wishes from Washington.

And the New Haven Register has an editorial in today’s paper to mark the event.

Check out the official word on the official anniversary at Griffin’s Web site, here.
