Harmeling To Remain On Seymour Finance Board, Koskelowski Supports Miller

Robert Koskelowski’s surprise ascension to chairman of the finance board may have dimmed his desire to become First Selectman again.

The veteran Seymour politico told the Valley Indy earlier this month that he was contemplating challenging First Selectman Paul Roy for the office. Roy, a Democrat, defeated Koskelowski, a Republican, in 2009.

Koskelowski was named to the finance board Jan. 25 to replace Mark Thompson, who abruptly resigned.

Koskelowski said last week he is focusing on being chairman and will only make a decision on running for the First Selectman’s office if fellow Republican Kurt Miller decides not to run for Roy’s spot.

Miller told the Valley Indy earlier this month that he’s considering seeking the Republican nomination.

Koskelowski supports Miller at this point, he said.

Koskelowski’s appointment as finance board chairman Jan. 25 angered Kristen Harmeling, a Democrat on the board. She threatened to resign. Click the video to see her reaction.

Harmeling said last week she has decided to stay on.
