‘Harvest House’ Volunteer Event Sept. 26 In Shelton

Harvest House VI will take place this Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Rotary Pavilion on the Shelton Riverwalk.

Volunteers will be building the walls of the house made up of boxes and cans of nonperishable food items.

This marks the sixth build of this very special house. As a result of the past five Harvest Houses, more than 1,000,000 meals have been provided to Valley families in need.

Harvest House is compared to a classic barn raising in that it utilizes the collective action of the community for the common good. Families in need, in turn, are able to thrive rather than go hungry.

This year’s project is especially fitting in light of the recently issued Valley Hunger Study which documented the need in the Valley.

Each year more than 100,000 items are collected and after the build are distributed to Valley food banks.
