The state Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing Wednesday on plans to build a new hangar and office space at Waterbury-Oxford Airport.
The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at Oxford High School. DOT staff will be present at 6 p.m. to answer questions prior to the hearing.
Plans call for the construction of a $33 million, 273,000 square-foot hangar on 10 acres at the DOT-owned airport.
The long-planned airplane hanger will be built by Keystone Aviation. It will house 30 corporate jets for Key Air Corporation, a charter plane company affiliated with Keystone.
The hangar and office space will be constructed on the southeastern side of the airport parallel to runway 36, according to information from a DOT press release.
The project is intended to expand and improve aircraft operations at the Waterbury/Oxford Airport. Construction will bring in some 300 new jobs, said Herman Schuler, Oxford Economic Development Director.
“This a huge project for the town and the state and is a private investment in a downturn economy,’‘ Schuler said.
He said he hopes that people come out and support the project.
