The president of the Arya Samaj of Connecticut Inc., (ASOC) a Hindu church in Stamford, presented a check to the Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross this week to send to Japan.
Desh Sharma, of Woodbridge, president of the church, presented a check for $551 from the church to Carol Kirby, executive director of the Red Cross Valley chapter.
Kirby was thankful for the money and said it will be sent directly to Japan to help efforts to clean up after a massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit over a month ago that caused a huge tsunami that killed thousands and disabled the Fukushima Dai-inchi nuclear power plant.
April 11 marked one month since the earthquake struck the country but there have been strong aftershocks.
