State Representative Theresa Conroy is looking for old photographs of Seymour to use in a book she is putting together about Seymour’s history.
It will be part of the Images of America series from Arcadia Publishing.
“Seymour is long overdue for a book documenting our history,” said Conroy, whose family has lived in Seymour for five generations. “It’s imperative that we capture our history before it’s lost.”
Conroy recently learned that there has not been a well-published book on Seymour’s history since 1902, when Seymour Past and Present was published.
The Seymour Bicentennial Committee reprinted the book in 1976, without any additions.
Anna and Frank Conroy, Rep. Conroy’s parents, are working with her on the book.
Frank, who is 80, has lived in Seymour his entire life and has a large collection of photographs and negatives, including a set of glass negatives from the turn of the last century. Although they will be using these and have collected many more from neighbors and archives, they are hoping there are many more photos sitting in basements and attics that could be used for the book.
“Seymour is a changing community with many new residents. I hope that this book will help them learn about the rich heritage of the community, while also raising some much needed funds for the Seymour Historical Society,” said Conroy, who will be donating her proceeds from the book to the town’s historical society.
If you have photographs, negatives or slides that you are interested in sharing, please contact Rep. Conroy at Theresa.Conroy@cga.ct.gov or 203.888.1300.
All materials will be returned to their owners and owners will receive proper credit if their photographs are included in the book.
