Home Depot in Derby and the Derby Storm Rescue and Ambulance Corps teamed Saturday morning for “fire prevention day,” one of hundreds such events happening around the country this weekend.

Kids went on tours of fire equipment, built and painted tiny wooden fire trucks, while families were given tips on how to protect their homes from fire.
The day culminated with Derby Storms demonstrating the “jaws of life” on a passenger vehicle. The tools are used to cut people from cars after crashes.
Oct. 7 – Oct. 13 is fire prevention week.
One home structure fire was reported every 85 seconds in 2010, according to stats from the National Fire Protection Association.
