An 80-year-old woman was beaten during a “home invasion” on Lombardi Drive in Derby.
Cops were called to 1 Lombardi Drive at 10:30 a.m.
The victim told police she was “home alone when she interrupted a burglary in progress.”
“Subsequently, she was assaulted by two masked individuals,” Derby police said in a prepared statement.
She sustained injuries, including head wounds, police said.
The woman was taken to the trauma center at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
“She was discovered by her daughter shortly after who phoned police,” according to the police statement.
Police said the nearby Bradley School was put on lock down for about 30 minutes as a precaution.
“Derby and Ansonia detectives are continuing to work the investigation. They are following up on leads developed through crime scene and witness statements,” police said.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Derby Police Department at (203) 735‑7811. All calls can remain anonymous.
The initial emergency dispatches repeatedly called the incident a ‘home invasion.’
At about 11:20 a.m., emergency radio transmissions said area police were looking for two men, possibly Hispanic, who were in a teal-colored Honda Accord, missing a hubcap.
The suspects apparently wore gloves and masks.
One of the suspects may have suffered a bite wound to his hand.
An unspecified amount of cash was stolen, no weapons were displayed, according to that initial report.
Lombardi Drive is off Sentinel Hill Road.
Derby Public Schools used a robocall to notify parents of the lock down at Bradley.
