First opened in 1961 as Housatonic Scout Reservation and renamed in 1990 the Edmund D. Strang Scout Reservation, the 186-acre Boy Scout camp in Goshen — owned and operated by the Derby based Housatonic Council — has been providing youths with an outdoor overnight adventure for 49 years.
The search is on to locate former camp staff and camp alumni for an upcoming reunion event at the camp on July 17 from noon to 5 p.m.
Several hundred people are expected to attend. The cost of the event is $10 per person or $20 per family and includes a barbeque lunch.
Former Housatonic Council Scout Executive Philip Warner and 50-year BSA member Charles Hemstreet Sr. will be honored with James E. West endowment awards for significant contributions to the camp. Several of the camp program areas will be open and memorabilia will be on display including early movies of the camp as it was being constructed.
Alumni association organizers include Kevin Moyher, Peter Gajdosik, Fr. Christopher Tiano, Ned Miller, Henry Decho, Bill Martin, Matt Decho, Mark Casiglio, Will Schmitt, Kyle Casiglio, Patrick McDonnell, Tom Transue, Rodney Erickson and Randy Ritter.
In addtion to current addresses for all former staff and campers, the Housatonic Council Boy Scouts camp alumni association is looking for help in identifying the names of the 1966 camp staff photo attached.
The public is asked to email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call the Housatonic Council Service Center at 203 – 734-3329 for reservations to the July 17 event or if they have old camp photos or contact information for former staff and campers.
