Update: House Fire In Shelton Ruled Arson

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora said a fire in a vacant house at 19 Lane St. Monday afternoon was intentionally set.

Someone broke into the house and started a fire,” Tortora said.

The fire marshal’s office is working with Shelton detectives on the case.

A neighbor mowing a lawn spotted smoke coming from the roof about 3:40 p.m. and called 911.

Firefighters arrived and saw smoke coming from the house, Shelton Fire Chief Fran Jones said.

No one was in the house.

They made quick entry, found a small fire on the first floor of the home and knocked it down within five minutes,” Jones said.

The fire originated in a small hallway area between a bedroom and the living room.

There is some smoke and water damage throughout the house, but overall it was a quick knock down,” he said.

The single-family Cape has two bedrooms and was built in 1947.

Tortora said although no one is living in the house, it has an owner and repairs have been ongoing in the home.

Lane Street is just off the Huntington Green, a stone’s throw from the shopping plaza that houses the Huntington St. Cafe.
