House Will Be Demolished Friday

The home at 161 North Oak Ave. will come down Friday, officials said.

Local contractor J.J. Brennan Construction Co. will complete the demolition, according to building official Elliot Wilson.

Brennan Construction is bringing equipment to the site today, Wilson said.

The home needs to be demolished after soft dirt from beneath its foundation slid down a steep slope Tuesday afternoon.

Officials have said the mudslide was likely caused from water that was pouring out of a burst pipe in the home.

No one was injured, but the home across the street from the house and some of the condo units below the hill were evacuated as a precaution.

Tonight, the two families that live in the home across the street will be let back home.

The fire department and myself, we checked it out. Everything seems secured,” Wilson said of the two-family home across the street from 161 North Oak Ave. Nothing looks any different in there than it did before.”

During the day Thursday, trees that fell down the steep slope beneath North Oak Avenue were being removed. The condo association for the Riverview Condos below is paying for the removal for now, but hopes to get some reimbursement for the costs.

Wilson said the construction company will remove the home from the North Oak Avenue side, not from the slope, and will use a crane to pick apart the pieces of the home.
