How To Help The Shelton Historical Society During The Great Give

Shelton Historical Society is excited to take part in next week’s Great Give, a 36 hour online fundraising event sponsored by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and the Valley Community Foundation.

Individuals will have the opportunity to donate a minimum of $25 on Tuesday, May 2 at 8:00 a.m. through Wednesday, May 3 at 8:00 p.m. Just visit www.sheltonhistoricalsociety.org and follow the links to The Great Give.

Exactly one and one-half years ago, Shelton Historical Society was faced with severe water damage to the historic Brownson House on the Shelton History Center property. It was decided to close the house to the public during 2016 while repairs were undertaken.

At the same time that the house was closed, a long-term project to interpret the house to a 1913 appearance took place. Contractors and volunteers have been busy installing reproduction and custom wallpaper, floor coverings, and window treatments. Historical society personnel have researched and documented lifestyles and trends that took place in Shelton in the earliest days of the 20th century.

An official opening will take place on Sunday, May 21. The organization is proud of its work to recover from the water damage and looks forward to introducing the community to the early 20th century through the new focus of the Brownson House.

After an eventful year, donations from The Great Give will assist the Society in continuing its educational programs for students, families, and adults.
