In Support of the Seymour Education Budget

First Selectman Paul Roy and Board of Education Chairman Edward Strumello are calling on the taxpayers of Seymour to support the Board of Education Budget that will be presented for the town referendum.

The First Selectman, the Board of Finance and the Board of Education have been working long and hard on developing budgets for the 2011 – 2012 Fiscal Year.

At the last referendum, held on May 10th, the Town Budget was accepted and the Board of Education Budget was rejected. Since that vote, the Board of Finance made an additional cut of $25,000 to the Board of Education’s requested budget.

The Education Budget is a responsible and fair request. Taxpayers are asked to support the budget because it allows the system to move forward and make sure the children receive a quality education.

The Board of Education, being taxpayers themselves, understands the economic times. The budget commits the board to fund all day kindergarten classes at LoPresti School. The board also continually tries their best to minimize cuts to staff and programs. Their major focus as always is to provide the best possible educational programs for the students of the Seymour school district.

The first selectman thanks the taxpayers for supporting the town budget but now would like the support of the taxpayers for the education budget. The town of Seymour deserves a quality educational system for the students, the parents and its people. Therefore, we ask the citizens of Seymour to vote yes for the Board of Education budget on Thursday May 26, 2011.

The referendum will be held at the Community Center, 20 Pine Street from 6 a.m.to 8 p.m.
