Coach Tom Brockett and the Chargers after winning a state championship in 2013.
ANSONIA — Mike Cannici’s talk show “In the Spotlight” this week featured an interview with Tom Brockett, the Ansonia High School football coach who announced his retirement April 10.
Brockett was an assistant coach with the Chargers from 2000 until 2005. He became head coach in 2006 after Jack Hunt, another Valley football legend, retired.
Brockett’s record with the Chargers was 215 wins and 18 losses. That’s a .922 winning percentage — the best in Connecticut history, according to the school district.
The Chargers won eight state championships with Brockett as coach and 13 Naugatuck Valley League championships.
The Chargers had seven undefeated seasons during his tenure.
