Info On The Derby-Shelton Memorial Day Parade

The Derby Shelton Memorial Day Parade Association announces its plans for the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30. 

The parade will start in Derby, officially at Elizabeth and Cottage Streets, at 9 a.m.

The parade will proceed down Elizabeth Street, turning right on Main Street and taking a left over the Derby-Shelton Bridge. 

There will be a brief ceremony on the bridge by the Veterans to honors those who died and were buried at sea. 

Once over the bridge the parade will take a right on Howe Avenue, left on White Street and left on Coram Avenue. 

The parade will then take a left on Center Street and right on to Howe Avenue. 

The parade concludes as the participants arrive at Howe Avenue and Cornell Street. 

The parade will honor Veterans and include floats decorated around the theme of Lest We Forget.”

Other participants in the parade include local and state representatives, mayors of both cities, various civic organizations, Girl and Boy Scouts, local sports teams, and police, fire, and EMS agencies from both cities. Musical groups will include: Mattatuck Drum and Bugle Corps, The Connecticut Hurricanes, Trumbull High School Marching Band, Shelton High School, Derby Middle School Band, and Hillhouse High School.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 29th at 7 p.m. to remember all local veterans who passed on in the last year. 

Shelton High School will host the service in the auditorium. 

There will be refreshments served after the service.
