Update: Woman Dead After Domestic Assault In Ansonia

ANSONIA — A woman is dead after a domestic assault at 73 Root Ave., Ansonia Police Chief Wayne Williams announced at an Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday. (Note: updated story here)

A suspect — the woman’s husband — is in custody and police are still on scene.

Earlier Tuesday Lt. Patrick Lynch said police received a report of a disturbance at about 1:45 p.m.

The initial calls from dispatch to emergency responders said a person was stabbed, but police would not confirm those details. Police issued a statement after Williams told the Aldermen.

The female victim lived at 73 Root Ave. Her name was not released. The suspect in custody is the woman’s husband, police said. He was not identified. Police were formulating charges as of 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lynch said more information would be released tomorrow.

In a statement, police noted help is available for people who might be experiencing domestic violence. Help is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
