SHELTON — The members of the Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution(SRH-MS, DAR) cordially invite you to our Flag Day Celebration at the Shelton Community Center, 41 Church St., Shelton, from 10am to Noon on Saturday June 17, 2023. We will be meeting in Craft Room #1 on the second floor. The program is free and open to the public.

We will be recognizing the Huntington Fire & Rescue Company No. 3 for correctly displaying the Flag of the United States with a DAR Flag Certificate. In 1909 the NSDAR established The Flag of the United States Committee with the objectives to keep the flag flying and to protect it continuously under all conditions, as well as to educate citizens regarding its correct usage. This year the NSDAR is showing its appreciation to the Huntington Fire & Rescue Company No. 3 for showing respect and correct flag usage.
Following the presentation all ages can participate in ‘bingo’ type games based on the history and symbolism of our Flag of the United States. Did you know that our flag has gone on some fascinating journeys? It has survived battles, inspired song, and brought Americans together during trying times. Even though the flag has gone through changes, its symbolism has remained the same: Patriotism, Liberty, Freedom, and Unity.
Come and enjoy a few hours of fun and prizes. Also, refreshments will be served. The program is free and is suited for all ages. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Community Center.
The DAR perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence. Any woman who is lineally descended from an ancestor who aided the patriot cause during the American Revolution may be eligible to join.
