DERBY — The Derby Board of Education was recognized at their March 24, 2022 Board of Education meeting for Board of Education Appreciation Month. March is Board of Education Appreciation Month, and we are asking all citizens to join us to build awareness and understanding of the vital function an elected board of education plays in our society. We ask you to join us in recognizing the incredible work of the Derby Board of Education and thank them for their relentless pursuit of excellence for your child and this City. They selflessly sacrifice their time and countless hours listening, learning, researching and advocating for what is best for our kids, our District, our City and this family.
Each board member was presented with a proclamation from the Governor to honor their achievements and sacrifice for the betterment of Derby students, families and residents.
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Matthew J. Conway, Jr. stated, “Through the Leadership and guidance of Chairman Gildea and the trust, support and commitment of the members of the Board, every administrator, teacher, staff member and student is given a voice, as we continue on this journey together. They spend countless hours every day ensuring the safety and academic and emotional well-being of every member of this Derby family. We are so fortunate and grateful to have a board who takes their responsibility to serve so personally.”
Chairman Gildea said, “I have always been honored to serve on the Derby Board of Education alongside countless dedicated community members that I have been fortunate to serve with. This year’s Board has proven to be energetic, thoughtful, committed and always looking to improve the lives of the students who the Derby Public School system is here to educate. We are all fortunate to serve, represent the citizens of Derby and look to make our community better.”
