Kevin Espin, 23, of Edward Road in Seymour, had several prescription pills in a backpack in his car, along with some marijuana and about $5,200 in cash, according to police Lt. Andrew Cota.
Espin was charged with failure to keep drugs in the original container, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, according to police.
Espin also faces motor vehicle charges, because his car was unregistered, he had no insurance, his license had been suspended, and because of the tail light out.
Police who pulled over Espin smelled an odor of marijuana in the car, Cota said, so they searched the car for the drug.
They found inside Espin’s backpack five or six bottles with prescription drugs such as Oxycodone and Opana, a narcotic pain medication. The medicines were in prescription bottles, but not the correct bottles, Cota said.
“With five or six different containers, because of the way it was packaged with other drugs, led us to believe it was intended for sale,” Cota said.
