January Chase Prompts Seymour Arrest

Police this week arrested a man for allegedly leading them on a chase through town in January.

Richard Famiglietti, 40, of 128 Lyman Road in Wolcott, was charged on a warrant for reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, evading responsibility, and failure to obey a stop sign.

On Jan. 9, police said Famiglietti set off a multi-department police chase when he was spotted getting into a white van in Waterbury wearing a woman’s dress. A resident mistakenly thought a woman was being abducted and called police, according to a New Haven Register article.

Police in Wolcott spotted the van, but were unable to stop it. An officer there, believing that a woman had been kidnapped, started pursuing Famiglietti.

The van got onto Route 8 and travelled south through Naugatuck, Beacon Falls and Seymour.

Police followed the van onto Route 67 in Seymour, and then onto Route 69 in Wooodbridge, where Famiglietti was finally stopped.

Seymour police spokesman Lt. Paul Satkowski said they had a warrant on file for some time. Wolcott police took Famiglietti into custody for Seymour, Satkowski said.

Famiglietti is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Oct. 30 for the Seymour charges.

Wolcott police did not return calls for comment Wednesday.
