Jaumann: I’m Against High Taxes And Money Pit Studies

To the Editor:

There has been a lot talk about the vehicle mileage tax (VMT) and a $300,000 grant sought by the Governor’s administration to conduct a study of the VMT.

As I have stated, I stand firmly against any such tax, and firmly against the study.

By all accounts, there seems to be a consensus that the VMT will never become an actual tax (if you believe the politicians), but the question I keep asking is, if we all agree that a VMT will be rejected, why is the state still conducting the study?

Could it be so that the Governor’s legislative and political allies can look measured and reasonable when it comes time to find another tax source to pay for the Governor’s unfeasible thirty year, $100 billion transportation plan after the election?

Rep. Gentile and others have suggested that the discussion of the VMT is a political ploy aimed at riling voters up.

The VMT is a current hot button issue, but it is not the reason people are riled up.

People are sick and tired of high taxes and government waste.

Over the past six years, Rep. Gentile has cast votes over and over and over again in favor of tax increases.

Tax increases that led to the mass exodus of businesses, taxpayers and jobs from our state, and resulted in Connecticut’s fiscal health being ranked last amongst the states.

What do we have to show for it? Enough is enough! It is time we stop waste taxpayer money. It is time we stop raising taxes to make up for the governmental waste of taxpayers’ dollars.

The people are sick and tired of being overtaxed and having their tax dollars wasted.

If the VMT is not a political ploy, then why has Rep. Gentile not joined signed my petition to send the $300,000 for the VMT study back to Washington, and cancel the study of the VMT?

The people of Connecticut and the 104th deserve to know that we are not wasting taxpayer money, and we are not going to raise their taxes again.

I pledge that when elected I will not vote to raise your taxes, or waste tax dollars to study outrageous taxes like the VMT.
