SEYMOUR – The Seymour Public Library hosts historian John Cilio for a free, in-person presentation, Juneteenth — the History of Celebrating an Anniversary of Freedom” on Wed., June 12, 2024 at 6:30 pm. Registration is not required.
Juneteenth commemorates the June 19, 1865 Federal Government’s announcement in Texas that emancipated the last enslaved African-American people of the Confederate South. Juneteenth, originally known as Jubilee Day, is a special holiday celebrating the promise of tomorrow that freedom provides every citizen. Find out the history of this Federal Holiday.
John Cilio is a historian, storyteller, member of the Organization of American Historians and the Association for the Study of Connecticut History.
