Junior Achievement Day In Shelton

More than 800 Shelton students will get a crash course in Junior Achievement on Friday, May 13, for the JA in a Day” event.

About 40 volunteers — including parents, community leaders and business volunteers from Gexpro, Prudential, PerkinElmer, Fletcher Thomspon, Pitney Bowes, People’s Bank, Newtown Savings Bank and Price Waterhouse — will provide instruction to more than 860 students.

The instruction will be from the Junior Achievent’s Our Nation” program, based on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum; and Global Marketplace” program.

Eight 6th grade classes are being directly funded by Gexpro.

The event will take place all day Friday at Perry Hill School.

Junior Achievement programs teach K‑12 students about work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy with age-appropriate, hands-on programs that align with state learning standards.

Shelton Public Schools have successfully partnered with Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut since the opening of its Valley Area satellite office 14 years ago.

With support from Mayor Mark Lauretti and Shelton’s Superintendent of Schools, Freeman Burr, more than 3,700 Shelton students will participate in JA’s career development and financial literacy programs this year.

This event is an excellent example of a partnership triangle” where the collaboration of educators, donors and volunteers bring JA programs directly to local students.
