Derby Public Schools recently announced Bradley School teacher Karen Marrone as the 2017 Derby Teacher of the Year.
This past year Marrone helped students as the school’s learning center teacher before becoming the resource reading teacher for the third, fourth and fifth-grade classes.
Thanks to her efforts, her students have seen incredible growth in their reading proficiency in the resource room and general education classroom.
She is a member of the school literacy leadership team, helping students in the areas of reading and writing, and is the leader for the Bradley School Unified Sports program that helps students with disabilities build positive relationships with peers through play and team building.
Marrone will be honored at a local ceremony on August 25, 2016. She will also be honored at the annual statewide awards ceremony to be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford.
