The animal died June 1 and the rabies test came back June 4.

Upon learning that the kitten had rabies, animal control officers went door to door advising area residents and businesses,” police said in a statement.

Animal control officers received reports that two other kittens were spotted in the area of Howe Avenue and Maple Street, which is why police are giving people there a head’s up.

Residents are reminded to have all their pets vaccinated, to not handle any wild or stray domestic animals, and to teach their children to stay away from these animals. Complaints of stray domestic animals should be made to Shelton Animal Control at (203) 925‑2501,” police said.
