The Knights of Columbus will host its third annual charity dinner for Carolyn’s Place, a pregnancy care center in Waterbury, on June 16.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the Knights Hall on Main Street, above the Strand Theater.
Last year the group raised $2,800 for Carolyn’s Place, according to Alex Overkamp, the financial secretary for the local Knights, known as Aurora Council 53.
This year they hope to raise $5,000, Overkamp said.
Tickets are $10, $5 for children, and may be ordered in advance by calling 203 – 641-6697.
“There will be pulled pork ribs, barbecued chicken, quite a spread,” Overkamp said of the event, which will include a raffle for an Apple iPad2, Yankees tickets, and Red Sox tickets.
Carolyn’s Place is a pro-life organization, and the Knights decided to help out because the Knights are also pro-life, Overkamp said.
“We give money to good causes, whether it be the Spooner House, the food bank, or scholarships,” he said.
At Carolyn’s Place, the help was more than welcome.
“We operate on donation only, so it’s a huge help,” said Ellen Cavallo, director of Carolyn’s Place.
The center takes its name from baby Carolyn, who was left at a church in Watertown in 1991. It was obvious to the priest who found the baby that the child’s mother did not have the support she needed. The idea for the Carolyn’s Place pregnancy center was born.
“Our motto is no woman should go through pregnancy alone,” Cavallo said of the organization.
Carolyn’s place has helped the mothers of more than 1,000 babies since 1992.
