SEYMOUR – A state Senate seat covering part of Seymour is up for grabs after the incumbent resigned from office after being re-elected.

State Sen. Kevin Kelly (R‑Stratford) did not take the oath of office on the first day of the session of the General Assembly on Jan. 8. He is expected to be nominated by Gov. Ned Lamont to be a judge.

The governor announced on Jan. 10 that a special election is scheduled for Feb. 25 to fill the seat Kelly vacated.

Kelly’s district also includes parts of Monroe and Stratford, and all of Shelton, according to a press release from the governor’s office. The area is state Senate District 21.

Kelly did not have an opponent in his most recent re-election bid in November 2024.
