Thursday’s report from the NVHD is embedded below. It arrived after the state’s Department of Health issued a COVID-19 alert for the City of New London.

The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) today is issuing a COVID-19 alert for New London due to a rising level of new cases in recent weeks,” the agency said in a press release. DPH is working with local officials to get the word out in the community to take extra precautions for the time being, including: limiting trips outside the home, wearing masks anytime you leave home, avoiding indoor gatherings with those you don’t live with, and not attending large outdoor gatherings. Between September 20 and October 3, New London recorded at least 115 new COVID-19 cases to raise the daily case rate to 30.5 per 100,000 population, one of the highest in the state. A similar alert was issued for Norwich last week.”

Also Thursday, the state eased some COVID restrictions that had been in place for businesses. The image below is from the Department of Economic & Community Development.

Overall the state’s infection rate was at 1.7 percent as of Thursday. That’s an increase from over the summer, when the rate was just under 1 percent, but still much better than other parts of the U.S.
