Police are investigating a crash that saw a Lawn Doctor van drive into a ditch off Route 67 in Oxford.
There were no injuries reported.
The crash happened at 8:45 a.m. near the new Nardelli’s at 84 Oxford Road (Route 67).
The Little River flows through the ditch the van crashed into. However, no chemicals from the truck leaked into the river.
As of 9:51 a.m., officials were waiting for a tow truck to pull the van out.
Police issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance to the van driver, Owen Loock, 18, of Southbury. The van was registered out of Oxford.
Police said Loock was driving southbound on Oxford Road and swerved toward the ditch to avoid striking a car ahead of him that was turning left into a private driveway.
The van was loaded with 600 pounds of lawn fertilizer pellets, packed in bags, but none of it spilled out into the small stream of the Little River at the roadside ravine, said Fire Chief Scott Pelletier.
Traffic was backed up about 40 minutes in each direction while a tow truck from Quality Auto Body and Restoration pulled the van out of the ravine.
