ANSONIA — The son of an elderly man who died after allegedly tripping and falling on a pothole outside the city’s senior center has filed a lawsuit against Ansonia.
According to the lawsuit filed by Eugene A. Skowronski, an attorney in Ansonia, on Feb. 20 at about 4:30 p.m., Matthew V. Milardo, 88, walked out the north side of the Joseph Doyle Senior Center at 153 Main St. and toward a parking area.
Milardo fell because the walking area was poorly maintained by the city, according to the lawsuit. Milardo died eight days later from injuries caused by the fall, according to the lawsuit.
Milardo’s estate was left with an array of hospital and medical bills connected to the incident.
The lawsuit is being filed on behalf of the Milardo’s estate of which Michael Milardo, the late man’s son, is co-executor.
The lawsuit claims the city was aware that a dangerous condition existed but didn’t do anything about it.
The lawsuit seeks at least $15,000 in damages.
Milardo was a U.S. Navy veteran who worked at B.F. Goodrich in Shelton and, later, Sikorsky Aircraft until his retirement in 1992. He left behind a wife, four children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
The lawsuit was listed as an executive session item on the agenda for Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting.
