Dear Ansonia Residents,
I write to you to urge you to vote for the Democratic slate of Aldermen candidates on Row A in the coming election. The people on Row A have proven that they are not only talented and care about our community, they have also proven that they are willing to be more engaged and transparent than the Republican Row B candidates.
I am sad, but not surprised, that the Republican candidates refused to do candidate interviews with the Valley Independent Sentinel for this election. It seems that the Republicans feel they do not need to answer to residents or reporters about their actions, or lack of action, on issues that matter to residents. Perhaps they have gotten comfortable and complacent.
In contrast, the current slate of Democrats on Row A have engaged with residents, listened, and spoken up to advocate on their behalf. They gladly accepted the Valley Indy’s invitation to have unscripted interviews to address the topics of the day.
They are a talented group — serving on the boards of local nonprofits, small business owners, and three veterans who served our country with honor. I have full faith that the Row A candidates will bring fresh ideas, professionalism, integrity; fiscal responsibility to keep projects from running over budget and keep our taxes low; and thoughtfulness to build a stronger Ansonia. They are ready to serve, treating all Ansonians with dignity, and working collaboratively with City Hall and residents.
To refuse to be interviewed by Valley Independent tells us that the Republican slate of Aldermen candidates on Row B do not want to answer questions, even by local reporters whose integrity and fairness have never been in question. The people of Ansonia deserve better.
I hope you will join me in voting for the Democratic Row A candidates this November. We must return balance to City Hall by electing candidates willing to answer tough questions, make themselves available, and treat all of their constituents with respect.
Jenna Kober
Ansonia Resident
