To say that I am motivated and eager at the possibility of serving on the Derby Board of Education is an understatement. As a candidate for the Derby Board of Education, I am hoping to be able to serve Derby’s taxpayers and students once again to support our schools to make them the best they can be.
Over the past 15 years, I have loved volunteering in Derby in many capacities trying to contribute to our small city whenever and however I can. My previous service includes being a member of the Derby Board of Education, Derby Public Library Board of Directors, and the Derby Little League Board of Directors. Currently, I serve on the Ansonia-Derby Temporary Regional School Study Committee (aka Ansonia-Derby regionalization committee). In addition, I am the co-founder and current secretary of the Derby Running Club, a 501c3 nonprofit organization supporting the DHS and DMS track & field and cross country teams and the Bradley School Running Club.
Having been a public school educator for the past 22 years, I hold certifications in elementary education, remedial reading/language arts specialist, reading consultant as well as a certified school administrator. Teaching children is my world. I have always been strongly motivated, goal-oriented, reliable and reflective. As an honest and objective person, I am comfortable being assertive when advocating for what is right. If elected, I will use all of my experiences as an educator, as a mom of two school-aged children attending Derby Public Schools, and as a taxpayer, to make decisions that best serve our constituents and students.
As an unaffiliated voter, I am proud to have worked equally effectively with city officials, various committee members, board members and volunteers of both the Democrat and Republican parties. I am excited to be endorsed by Mayor Rich Dziekan and running on his ticket. Mayor Dziekan and I hold similar values about working together to reach a common goal, regardless of party affiliation.
If elected, know that I will work tirelessly to continue to contribute to our city. On November 5, I would greatly appreciate your vote. Look for my name, Tara Hyder, in row 22B on the ballot.
