Letter: Don’t Forget Derby Mayor Dziekan’s Efforts For Business And Charity

What a positive difference Mayor Dziekan has made during his two years in office. There are so many accomplishments but I would like to focus on his extensive fundraising efforts for the businesses and residents of Derby.

Many of the local restaurants have had the privilege of the Mayor running fundraisers from their establishments and gifting the monies that were raised to local non-profit organizations of their choice.

Archie Moore’s was lucky to have two such events, one in March 2018 and one in March 2019. Archie’s was able to make a sizable contribution to The Cancer Center at Griffin Hospital and to the Derby Running Club. The events were beneficial to our restaurant too. Mayor Dziekan brought in a steady flow of business on both occasions, and introduced new clientele to our restaurant.

I was also thrilled with the fireworks display over the past two years, and to know that they were completely funded by donations, saving the city over $30,000. Under the old administration, the majority of the cost for the fireworks was the responsibility of the taxpayer. With a little ingenuity and perseverance Mayor Dziekan and his staff go above and beyond to make Derby a shining star once again while raising over $53,000 for some incredible local causes.
