As a former Mayor and Purple Heart recipient, I believe Mayor Rich Dziekan’s leadership, not only in local politics, but as an advocate for veterans throughout the state and local level, is something to be proud of.
While serving as the Post Commander for the Catholic War Veterans St. Michael’s Post 1562 in Derby, Rich oversaw the renovations of the facility and facilitated an increase in membership. His support of our veterans throughout the state can be seen through his work as a trustee for the State of Connecticut Veterans Affairs, his active membership in American Legion and the Port 5 Naval Veterans of Bridgeport.
Rich has given more than half his life to community service while in the Air Force, as a Hamden police officer, and now as Derby’s mayor. His love for his country, his city, and his community sets an example that we all can be proud to follow.
The writer is the former mayor of Derby.
