Letter: In Ansonia, Vote For The Person, Not The Party

ANSONIA — With the political season for Ansonia coming to an end on November 2nd, we will soon see if the hard work made by the candidates on both sides of the political spectrum either be rewarded for their hard work and be elected/re-elected to the office they are seeking or be faced with the bitter sting of defeat.

We are very lucky to have so many individuals regardless of political party who want to represent our community and make our city better. I am honored to have developed working friendships and respect with many candidates on Row A & B not just this election season but over the past few election cycles.

When it comes down to it, we are all just regular people who want to serve the community in the best way we see fit. Serving is something I have been doing for 10 years as a firefighter for the city and working to revitalize the Ansonia Opera House to preserve a part of our rich history.

I’m a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science with concentrations in Urban Politics and International Relations. I am a homeowner and who like many people in this city do not want to see our taxes go up. I applaud the success Mayor Cassetti has had with revitalizing our downtown area along with other projects in town. Regardless of who is leading our city, I want us as a community to succeed. I wouldn’t want the pilot of my plane to fail at their job just because they are not the same political party as me, we are all in this together.

The reason why I am running along with my running mate John Feddern for 1st Ward Aldermen, is so I can help add to the progress in Ansonia, create accountability as the legislative equivalent for our city government, and bring new ideas and perspective that might otherwise be left out of the discussion. It is important that we have a Board of Aldermen that represents our community and actively act to help bring issues that affect our citizens to light. It shouldn’t matter who comes up with the idea, the philosophy I have always had is if it’s a good idea then it’s a good idea. Both teams want to see Ansonia be the best city it can be, we just have different ideas on how to get there. The idea that political parties need to fight for the sake of fighting is ridiculous and has no place here in our city.

Let’s move past the politically bias ads, social media posts, and rhetoric, and come together as a community and look at who can best represent the needs of our residents. I hope that voters on November 2nd can look past the Row A vs Row B mentality and look at the individual they are choosing.

My grandfather Joseph Jeanette Sr, a Marine, former Copper and Brass employee, and role model growing up, inspired me to be a man of integrity and to keep my word. If elected, that’s what I will bring to Ansonia as an Alderman.

Gary Farrar Jr.
Candidate for 1st Ward Alderman
