Letter: What Is Ansonia Doing To Prevent Youth Violence?

Dear Mayor David Cassetti:

I am writing this letter with hopes of change. On April 5th, 2022 I witnessed someone pass away from a gunshot wound on Main Street Ansonia, mere steps from City Hall. It has been reported that the shooting was drug related. This is not the Ansonia we want the world to know.

Today is not a happy day. Our city is in pain.

I know that my own love of the city is only second to you. I came here in 2019 attracted by your Ansonia Recharged program. Since that time, I have opened a small business here on Main Street overlooking the Wells Fargo building. In the near future I plan to buy a home and start a family here.

We want the same thing- we want Ansonia to prosper. So far, your response to the tragedy has been disrespectful discourse with members of the city through social media and a video of you jumping on the bed with an easter bunny. This is not the Ansonia we want the world to know.

I ask that you hold a town hall discussion with people from both sides of the aisle so that we as a city can find a solution to this problem. This is not a political symposium. I voted for you on November 2nd 2021 and you are our mayor.

I know that we both agree that one child dying is too many.

With great sorrow,

Thomas Egan Esq.

The writer, an attorney, has an office in downtown Ansonia.
